Thai Prime Minister Anutin launched the first mobile campaign against cyber threats. He stated in a hoarse voice that as citizens have repeatedly fallen victim to call centre scams and transnational crimes, combating cyber threats has become a national priority. Meanwhile, prominent figure Chaiyanuk admitted he was targeted by a call centre scam even in his office and warned the public to stay vigilant. He noted with pride that such incidents had dropped by more than 50% over eight months.
On 15 August 2026, at Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony of the first travelling exhibition on countering cyber threats (Digital Shield Forum). Chaiyanuk Chitchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Nan Bentida Songchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and representatives from relevant agencies also attended the event.
With a hoarse voice, the premier apologised for his poor singing voice while expressing his delight at attending this event concerning the livelihoods of Thai people. He pointed out that technology greatly facilitates daily life, yet scammers also leverage technology to easily approach the public. He recently saw a warning about fraudsters using synthetic voice impersonation, pretending to be children and persuading mothers to transfer money for purchases. Fortunately, people who quickly questioned the scammer’s identity avoided losses. He emphasised that everyone should recognise answering one phone call or clicking a single link can wipe out a lifetime of savings. Therefore, this is not a distant issue nor an individual’s problem; it requires joint efforts from all of us.
