Reported by Mobile Time on September 28, 2026, Claro, a leading operator in Colombia, has reached a major cooperation deal, opening its own mobile network to the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Móvil Éxito for the first time. Over 2 million subscribers of the MVNO will now be able to use Claro’s network resources.
Móvil Éxito, which is owned by the local large supermarket group Éxito, has been operating in the market for 13 years. Prior to this partnership, it had been leasing network capacity from Tigo to run its business, focusing mainly on no-contract prepaid plans. Following this new cooperation, subscribers will have an additional network option, while retaining their existing plan benefits and phone numbers. Claro boasts strong network coverage: its 4G signal reaches all 1,104 municipalities across the country, with more than 10,600 cell towers, and its 5G network has already been launched in over 100 cities.
Subscribers will need to replace their SIM cards with ones compatible with Claro’s network to access the new network. Starting from September 15, users can apply for SIM replacement at major supermarket outlets under the Éxito Group. The service is initially available at only 30 stores, and will be gradually rolled out to 447 outlets nationwide. Existing subscribers can keep their phone numbers when switching SIM cards; users from other operators can also port their numbers to Móvil Éxito; and new users can directly purchase the new SIM card. This cooperation also marks a new stage of development for Móvil Éxito, as well as a strategic shift for Claro in its MVNO wholesale business.
