Chile Orders Blocking of 37 Domains Linked to Illegal Online Gambling

Acting in compliance with judicial rulings issued by the Supreme Court of Chile and the Santiago Court of Appeals, Chile's Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) has issued an order to six domestic internet service providers (ISPs) requiring them to block 37 newly identified illegal online gambling domains, subdomains, and mirror sites.

The list of domains has been pre-verified and confirmed by the Superintendency of Casinos (SCJ), and covers multiple overseas gambling platforms including Betano, Betsson, 1xBet, Bet365, and Betfair. The six ISPs — Entel, Movistar, Claro, GTD, WOM, and VTR — are required to complete DNS domain resolution blocking operations within 48 hours of receiving the notification.

DNS blocking is adopted as the technical measure for this enforcement action. Targeted exclusively at the confirmed specific domains, this approach is designed to avoid disrupting other legitimate internet services to the greatest extent possible. Upon completing the blocking measures, ISPs must submit a certificate of execution directly to the Santiago Court of Appeals, with a copy sent to Subtel to record the exact time the blocking was implemented.

Recognizing that illegal gambling platforms frequently change domains and set up mirror sites to evade blocks, the court has established a dynamic addition mechanism. New domains verified and confirmed by the SCJ will be continuously added to the blocking list to sustain the crackdown on illegal online gambling operations, according to Teletrece.
