Angellah Kairuki, Tanzania's Minister of Information, Communication and Information Technology, released the TCRA Q4 performance report for the 2025/26 fiscal year on August 10, 2026. The report shows that as of June 2026, the total number of mobile phone lines in Tanzania stood at 116.9 million, representing a 4.51% increase from 111.9 million in March 2026. Minister Kairuki noted that this growth reflects the continuous rise in the usage of voice calling, internet and SMS services.
Minister Kairuki also clarified that the number of mobile phone lines exceeding Tanzania's total national population does not mean every Tanzanian owns a mobile phone. Instead, some users hold multiple numbers for different needs, such as internet access and business purposes. She stated that the government will continue to strengthen and standardize regulation of the communications industry to ensure that the growing usage of services is matched by the supply of high-quality, secure communications services.
