NTT Com Online Launches 2Way SMS Two-Way Messaging Service

On March 22, 2024, NTT Com Online Marketing Solutions Corporation announced the launch of its "2Way SMS" two-way messaging service. The service enables real-time two-way interactive communication between enterprises and customers, and can be applied to scenarios such as promotional campaigns, customer support, and appointment confirmations. A key highlight of the service is its use of a Common Short Code jointly issued by Japan’s four major mobile operators (NTT DOCOMO, KDDI, SoftBank, and Rakuten Mobile), allowing enterprises to provide customers with a single unified short code.

1. Common Short Code. Previously, deploying two-way SMS in Japan required enterprises to apply for separate short codes for each operator, involving a complex process. The four major operators have now established a Common Short Code framework. The 2Way SMS service provided by NTT Com Online uses a Common Short Code jointly issued by the four operators, so enterprises only need to share one unified company code with their customers.

2. Simple Connection (SMPP). Previously, implementing 2Way SMS required the use of proprietary interfaces specific to each operator. NTT Com Online has aggregated these interfaces into the international standard interface (SMPP), enabling enterprises to connect with ease.

3. No Charge for End Users. End users will not be charged for SMS messages they send; enterprises will bear the messaging fees. (Note: When sending messages from outside Japan, operators may charge end users directly.)

This service enables rapid feedback through real-time interactive communication, enhances customer experience, and supports the automation of a wide range of business activities.
