The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines will implement a mandatory regulation starting in 2025, requiring all A2P commercial SMS to use pre-registered alphanumeric Sender IDs, with unregistered IDs to be blocked.
Under the latest regulatory requirements issued by the NTC, all enterprises sending A2P commercial SMS must pre-register their alphanumeric Sender IDs. Sender IDs must consist of letters or a combination of letters and numbers (e.g., "YOURBRAND"); purely numeric Sender IDs are prohibited. They are limited to 3 to 11 characters in length, must be clearly associated with the brand name, and may not use generic terms such as "TEST", "SMS", or "MESSAGE".
Regarding the effective timeline, the NTC has adopted a phased implementation approach: starting February 24, 2025, unregistered alphanumeric Sender IDs and international long numbers will be subject to intermittent blocking; starting April 7, 2025, all SMS from unregistered Sender IDs will be permanently blocked. The review period for Sender ID registration is approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
