Starting August 2024, telecommunications networks across Indonesia have upgraded the regulatory standards for domestic SMS Sender IDs, imposing mandatory requirements across multiple areas, including registration and filing, content alignment, the prohibition of generic IDs, and activity management. Any violation will directly result in Sender ID blocking, substantially raising the compliance bar for local A2P SMS services.
All alphanumeric Sender IDs must be registered in advance, and the brand name corresponding to the Sender ID must appear in the SMS content. Missing information or a mismatch between the two will be treated as abuse and may lead to a six-month blocking period. Generic names such as INFO, SMS, and NOTICE may not be used as Sender IDs; enterprises may only conduct business using their own recognizable brand or company names. Unregistered SMS traffic will be blocked directly at the edge of the operator network and will not enter the review process.
For domestic brand Sender IDs that have been successfully registered, operators have also established an activity assessment mechanism. If a registered ID has no SMS traffic for three consecutive months, it will be automatically blocked. If an enterprise subsequently needs to reactivate the ID, it must submit a complete registration application again before SMS delivery capability can be restored.
